IIDA Announces Formation of Interior Design Diversity Council
A group of 29 designers and manufacturer representatives confronted the topics of diversity and inclusion within the interior design industry during the 19th International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Industry Roundtable, held on January 8–10. Following a discussion led by IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, the interior design industry’s first Diversity Council was assembled.
Best of Asia Pacific Design Awards: Best of Competition Winner Announced
The International Interior Design Association (IIDA), in conjunction with co-presenting sponsor Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, is proud to award the Best of Competition winner for the 2015 Best of Asia Pacific Design Awards to nA Nakayama Architects co., Ltd., for their project HIGO in Sapporo, Japan. HIGO also was a Small Corporate Space category winner. The Best of Asia Pacific Design Awards recognize the highest level of design excellence in Interior Design/Architecture projects throughout the Asia Pacific region.

LEED v4 stories: Haworth Beijing Showroom
We’re launching our series with the world’s very first certified LEED v4 project: the Haworth Beijing Organic Showroom in China. Located inside a LEED Platinum building, the furniture and office space manufacturer designed their showroom with a focus on sustainability and flexibility—saving money and time and reducing waste. I spoke to the project’s LEED consultant, Alessandro Bisagni, Founder and Managing Director of BEE – Bisagni Environmental Enterprise, and his colleague, Tracy Chen, to get their perspective on what it took to achieve this historic recognition.
IIDA Announces Winners of the EDspaces Innovation Awards
The International Interior Design Association (IIDA), in collaboration with EDmarket, proudly announces the winners of the 2015 EDspaces Innovation Awards. The competition recognizes manufacturers and designers for excellence in product design for the learning environment. Awards were announced yesterday at the EDspaces tradeshow and conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, with this year’s Best of Competition honors awarded to Borgo Contract Seating for its product, Pivot.
Sustainable Heritage [USGBC+]
Appleton Farms in Hamilton and Ipswich, Massachusetts, is one of the oldest and largest (with more than a thousand acres) continuously operating farms in the United States. Established in 1638 by a land grant to Samuel Appleton, the farm today preserves a bucolic landscape, agricultural traditions, and historic farm buildings that are disappearing in the eastern part of the state. Acquired by the Trustees in 2000, Appleton Farms has the ambitious goal to become carbon-neutral in its near future.
