The year ended on a high note, with the largest employment gains reported in the last month of 2015. Private-sector employment grew by 257,000 jobs from November to December on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to an employment report released today by payroll-processing company ADP and its partner Moody's Analytics. This figure is a significant jump from the downwardly revised gains of 211,000 jobs in November and 173,000 jobs in October.
Companies Shy Away From Spending
Business investment across the U.S. is fizzling out. Companies appear reluctant to step up spending on the basic building blocks of the economy, such as machines, computers and new buildings. The broadest measure of U.S. business investment advanced 2.2% from a year earlier in the third quarter, the Commerce Department said last week, marking one of the worse performances of the six-year-old economic expansion.
