The International Interior Design Association (IIDA), in conjunction with co-presenting sponsor Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, is proud to award the Best of Competition winner for the 2015 Best of Asia Pacific Design Awards to nA Nakayama Architects co., Ltd., for their project HIGO in Sapporo, Japan. HIGO also was a Small Corporate Space category winner. The Best of Asia Pacific Design Awards recognize the highest level of design excellence in Interior Design/Architecture projects throughout the Asia Pacific region.
“This year’s submissions showcased design innovation at its finest. We are honored to recognize nA Nakayama Architects co.,Ltd., for their well-executed project, which thoughtfully intermingles the interior and exterior spaces with an emphasis on connecting with nature,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA, LEED AP. “The effect is both intimate and inviting.”
Judges on the panel for the Best of Asia Pacific Design Awards included Annie Chu, IIDA, AIA (Founder and Principal, Chu + Gooding Architects), Primo Orpilla, IIDA (Co-Founder and Principal, Studio O+A), and Joey N. Shimoda, FIIDA, FAIA (Chief Creative Officer, Shimoda Design Group).
According to the judges, “HIGO is an exceptional example of restrained detailing that creates an exquisitely tactile atmosphere.” The judges also noted that the symbolic references to nature and light, the open sight lines, and the curated view of books and nature create a welcoming space for employees and visitors alike.
Winning projects were celebrated at an awards ceremony held at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015. Images of the winning projects are available on the IIDA website and are featured in the December issue of Contract magazine, the competition’s publishing partner.
