Herman Miller Introduces Ode, Poetic Illumination for Any Setting

Herman Miller has once again worked with designers Sam Hecht and Kim Colin to create a versatile product with universal appeal. Following on the success of their Wireframe Sofa and the Locale system, their latest collaboration is the elegant Ode Lamp, occasional lighting perfect for almost any setting. With soft curves and a poetic grace, the Ode Lamp’s ring of anti-glare LEDs and spun steel shade creates diffused illumination, drawing people together in a welcoming pool of light.

Offered in a black or white satin finish, the Ode Lamp’s various heights and freestanding or surface-integrated options offer choice and can either add a sophisticated accent to a home, or be utilized to create a consistent aesthetic throughout an office landscape. Freestanding Ode lamps are available in a table height and either sofa- or standing-height floor lamps. Surface-integrated lamps are available in two heights and can be mounted to a variety of surfaces such as countertops, credenzas, or refreshment centers. Ode variations include:

• Table/Desk Lamp (17.5" high)

• Freestanding Floor Lamp

• Sofa-height (43" high)

• Standing-height (68" high)

• Surface Integrated Lamp

• Sofa-height (33" high)

• Standing-height (48" high)

In keeping with Herman Miller’s Design for the Environment protocol, Ode is made almost entirely of recycled steel and incorporates energy-saving LEDs with intuitive adjustability to brighten the surroundings to a desired level. Touch technology enables the user to gently grasp Ode’s stem once to turn it on, and again to turn it off. The table lamp is also dimmable, activated by the same touch technology. Ode can be used as lighting in targeted zones to create an atmosphere much like a campfire – with a warm glow that naturally draws people together.

Sam Hecht and Kim Colin, both Royal Designers for Industry, have previously collaborated on several designs for Herman Miller, including Wireframe lounge seating, Locale systems, and Formwork desktop storage. Working out of their London-based studio, Industrial Facility, the design duo have created pieces that are held in museum collections worldwide, including MoMA in New York City, The Art Institute in Chicago, San Francisco MoMA, the Finlandia Museum in Helsinki, the Pompidou Centre in Paris, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
