Interview: Giacomo Moor

Giacomo Moor has cemented a place as one of the designers most capable of pursuing a design strategy harmonising and creating a dialogue between technology and craftsmanship, in accordance with production logics theorised by the American sociologist Richard Sennett. An integral part of his creative universe is a profound knowledge of wood.

Technical ability paired with an approach to other materials mark this independent business open to experimentation, a concrete example of the new possibilities at work for design. With his workshop/studio/company, Moor embodies a happy instance of the artisan future described by Stefano Miceli. His studio in the Loreto area of Milan reveals his rediscovery of a considerable heritage of skills and techniques. Allied to a contemporary taste, these satisfy the needs of a range of different clients – from galleries and companies to the most demanding private clients. Moor's design work, with its strong anthropological value, suggests possible ways of nurturing new opportunities for designers in the modern world. The Milanese designer is a figure capable of managing a wide gamut of skills and challenging himself on multiple levels.
