TWO MORE TEKNION SHOWROOMS LEED CERTIFIED TO THE GOLD LEVEL

Teknion Corporation today announced that two more of its showrooms – in Los Angeles and Toronto – have been LEED® certified to the Gold level. The LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), green building program is the pre-eminent program for the design, construction, maintenance and operation of high-performance green buildings.

“Receiving LEED certification for our Los Angeles and Toronto showrooms enables Teknion to continue to provide healthy and more productive environments for customers and employees, which is particularly important since we spend about 90 percent of our time indoors,” said Tracy Backus, Director, Sustainable Programs. “Teknion continues to align with LEED as a fundamental strategy for our showrooms. LEED is a proven stepping stone to not only reductions in energy, water and emissions, but also a benefit to people and environmental well-being. As such, our Los Angeles showroom has been registered to pursue the WELL Building Standard.”

Teknion’s downtown Los Angeles showroom opened earlier this year. Located on the 41st floor of the LEED Platinum Certified Ernst & Young Plaza, the 8,650-square-foot (804 m²) space offers visitors panoramic views of the Los Angeles skyline to the Pacific Ocean. Teknion received LEED Gold certification for its Los Angeles showroom from the USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council).

Toronto’s 10,750-square-foot (1000 m²) Collaboration Hub is located on the 20th floor of the LEED Gold Bremner Tower at 120 Bremner Boulevard in downtown Toronto. Teknion received LEED Gold certification for its Toronto showroom from the CaGBC (Canada Green Building Council). Teknion recently became the first manufacturer in the world to receive WELL certification at the silver level under WELL v1 for its Toronto showroom by meeting 100 percent of the WELL Preconditions applicable to the Project Type in all Concepts.

The Los Angeles and Toronto showrooms are designed to reflect Teknion’s latest vision of the workplace. They also reinforce the Teknion brand – a design-focused company that brings bold creative thinking and intelligent innovation to the international contract furniture market. Both showrooms were designed by Vanderbyl Design.

Last year, Teknion’s Boston and Montreal showrooms became the company’s first to receive LEED Platinum Green Building Certification. In addition, five of the company’s showrooms in the U.S. have been awarded LEED Gold certification, including those in Atlanta, Chicago, San Francisco, Santa Monica and Washington, D.C. In Canada, Teknion’s Ottawa showroom received LEED Silver certification.
