West Elm picks Portand, Maine, for a sixth hotel

West Elm named Portland, Maine, its sixth site for a boutique hotel location with a 150-room property planned to open near the waterfront in 2020.

The retailer, part of San Francisco-based Top 100 company Williams-Sonoma, first announced plans for West Elm Hotels in September, targeting first properties in Detroit; Minneapolis; Savannah, Ga.; Charlotte, N.C.; and Indianapolis with opens beginning in late 2018. It now says the first hotels will begin opening in early 2019. Charlotte is off the list, and Oakland, Calif., is now on.

The Portland hotel will be developed by Portland Foreside Development Co. and operated by West Elm Hotel’s exclusive operating DDK, according to a release.
