Pratt Institute Students Visit Knoll in East Greenville

Knoll Director of Design Karen Stone and Pratt Institute industrial design students at the Knoll East Greenville, Pennsylvania facility.

Karen Stone, Knoll Design, brought students from Pratt Institute's Industrial Design Department to the Knoll East Greenville, Pennsylvania manufacturing facility. Students got a glimpse of the production and product development process at Knoll, touring the plant and speaking to members of the Knoll development team.

Industrial design students observed firsthand how engineers operate alongside designers at Knoll, working together to solve for problems that arise over the product development process – from mechanical challenges to selecting performing materials – to create inspired products for work and life. Students experienced step-by-step how a design and its aesthetic sensibilities come to life in production. Knoll designs – from a Generation Chair to a Bertoia Chair – served as prime examples of concept, material and form coming together.

By the end of the tour, Pratt Institute students left Knoll with a unique perspective on what it takes to bring a product to life. Before departing, students recieved materials from Spinneybeck and FilzFelt to incorporate in their upcoming design projects.
