Two chairs that are part of a patent infringement lawsuit Williams-Sonoma Inc. filed against Amazon can no longer be found on Amazon’s website.
On Dec. 14, Williams-Sonoma filed a patent infringement suit against Amazon, saying that Amazon is infringing on its intellectual property, including the unauthorized use of its registered service mark and common law trademarks. In addition, it claims Amazon is copying Williams-Sonoma’s proprietary designs of items that include lamps, chairs, and other furniture and lighting products.
This includes two chairs sold by subsidiary West Elm, including the Orb dining chair which West Elm launched in December 2016 and the Slope leather swivel office chair, which West Elm launched in June 2016. In the first 10 months of this year, it said sales of the office chair have exceeded $1 million, and sales of the dining chair have exceeded $5 million.
It claimed that Amazon began selling its Rivet Modern Upholstered Orb Office Chair and its Rivet Industrial Slope Top-Grain Leather Swivel Office Chair around March 19. The suit claims that both have names and designs that are similar to its Orb Dining Chair and its Slope Leather Swivel Office Chair.
