Google To Open Offices In 9 New Markets

Joining the list of tech companies rapidly expanding their footprints, Google will be opening offices in nine states across the U.S. with plans to hire thousands of new employees, according to CNN.

The full list of locations has not been confirmed but Colorado and Michigan are said to be among the nine. The company is growing in the San Francisco Bay Area, including expansion into San Jose, California — approximately 13 miles from its Mountain View campus. Google made the decision to develop beyond the Bay Area because its operations grew faster outside the region than inside it last year, CNN reports.

The company has plans to add another five data centers within the next 12 months. It currently has six in operation in states that include Oklahoma, Iowa and North Carolina.

Apple is also spending an estimated $10B on data center operations, which will add to its existing facilities in North Carolina, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Iowa. The company has said it will be investing a total of $30B in capital expenditures in the U.S. over a period of five years and will be adding 20,000 jobs and another new campus, the location of which has not yet been announced.
