Malvern, Pa.–based building products manufacturer CertainTeed—a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, one of the world’s largest building products manufacturing companies—announced that it has closed a deal to acquire Hunter Douglas' North American ceilings operation earlier this month. With this acquisition, CertainTeed has expanded its portfolio of products to include specialty architectural products like Hunter Douglas' Heartfelt ceiling and wall systemsTechstyle acoustical ceiling panels, and the line of metal ceilings.

“As the market has continued to demand more specialty solutions, we have been actively developing a product portfolio that delivers the creative solutions architects and designers are seeking,” said Carmen Bodden, vice president and general manager of CertainTeed Ceilings in a press release. “Hunter Douglas has innovative and diverse ceilings and wall product lines that fulfill this strategy perfectly by meeting the creative and functional needs of architects and design professionals.”

“As part of the divestment, Hunter Douglas will develop collaborative programs with CertainTeed and Saint-Gobain to market our commercial window-covering products,” said Ron Kass, president and CEO of the North American operations of Hunter Douglas, in the same release.

Hunter Douglas is one of the largest manufacturers of window coverings and architectural products such as aluminum, steel, felt, and fiberglass ceiling products. Its North American business has more than 100 employees in its Norcross, Ga. and Denver facilities which manufacture architectural ceilings, walls, and soffit systems.

Originally founded in 1904 as General Roofing Manufacturing Co., today, CertainTeed specializes in acoustical ceiling and wall solutions and its family of products includes acoustic ceiling panels, specialty gypsum and wood ceilings, suspension systems, and acoustic solutions.

As part of this agreement, Hunter Douglas Architectural Ceilings' general manager Ron Rice will remain in his role and will join the CertainTeed Ceilings' management team.
