Office furniture manufacturer Actiu's headquarters has obtained both the WELL v2 and LEED Platinum certifications, the first industrial building in the world to achieve both.
Situated in Castalla, Alicante, Actiu's headquarters, called the Technology Park, has become the fifth complex in the world to receive the WELL v2 certification for well-being.
This award accredits how the headquarters has been built to ensure the health and well-being of its occupants, both inside and out.
Actiu also received LEED green building platinum certification in 2017, making its headquarters the first industrial building in the world to hold both international awards.
According to the company, its main office is now also recognized as the fifth healthiest building in the world, the second healthiest in Europe, and the healthiest in Spain.
"Investing in health and well-being is investing in life," said Soledat Berbegal, Actiu's brand reputation leader. "Companies need that dynamism and that human value, and that is achieved by caring for and stimulating people through space."
"The WELL certification takes into account physical as well as emotional well-being," she continued. "And everything to do with the heart and the senses is life. Life for employees and also for companies."
While the LEED platinum certification, which was granted by the USGBC US Green Building Council, recognizes the headquarters for its sustainable architecture, the WELL v2 award focuses on the interiors and facilities in its Technology Park.
This includes an array of different elements from the lighting conditions and temperature to the layout of the spaces and employees' mood.
The interiors have been based on the concept of biophilic design, which aims to increase occupants' connectivity to the natural environment by using the interior design to evoke patterns found in nature, including wood and soft colours.
Rain water is also collected from the roofs and stored in underground cisterns for irrigation and industrial use.
In a bid to create a more efficient, friendly and collaborative interior space, Actiu installed drinking water points less than 30 metres away from all work areas, and healthy food vending machines across the space.
The building also uses sensors to measure air and water quality in accordance with the WELL certification parameters.
In addition to this, the company has added its own latest, dynamic furniture ranges into the office, which encourage communication and collaboration, as well as offering comfort.
Height-adjustable tables have also been installed on every floor to promote active working, and some stations have been equipped with electronic height-adjustable tables.
"Movement is key to well-being, being able to comfortably change posture throughout the day improves a person's physical condition," said Actiu.
"Hence, the possibility of alternating sitting and standing work is increasingly being implemented," the company added. "A philosophy which table models such as Talent, Power and Mobility are based on."
