Global textile company Camira Fabrics has announced their collaboration with Danish-American designer Jens Risom, which has launched globally today, February 4, 2019. The line of textiles influenced by the Scandinavian designers work will be unveiled at the 2019 Stockholm Furniture Fair. The first two fabrics, Zap and Armadillo will be on display, opening February 5 through February 9.
Having been one the most celebrated designers of the mid-century modern design movement along with George Nelson, Charles and Ray Eames, Harry Bertoia, Eero Saarinen, and Edward Wormley, Camira hopes to make Risom’s textile designs relevant to todays market. Though his furniture designs are still produced by numerous companies, Camira will be the first to recreate his textiles. Paying special attention to the colors, textures, and tones of Risom’s original 1960s fabrics, Camira has reimagined these pieces in a modern way.
“Reimagining the fabrics of a design icon has been an incredible project for Camira,” says Abigail Bomford, creative director at Camira. “Not only are they such intriguing textiles but, having been set aside for such a long time, there was a commitment from everybody involved to make sure that we did justice to this key part of Jens’ legacy.”
Though Risom is well known today, his work in textiles are often a forgotten part of Risom’s story. Sven Risom, Jens’ youngest son has praised the collection saying, “The first reintroduction of Jens’ textiles is with Camira and as a family we couldn’t be happier. Jens would be so honored.”
