2019 is a landmark year for Davis Furniture as we celebrate 75 years of design. Davis Furniture Industries (formerly Davis Upholstery Co.) was founded by John T. Davis, Sr. in 1944. Seventy-five years later, we are still a family-owned and operated company.
Davis Upholstery Co. first focused on repair work followed by the manufacturing of occasional tables and chairs. In 1964, John T. Davis, Jr. assumed the role of President from his father and renamed the company Davis Furniture Industries. During his time as President and CEO, John Davis, Jr. oversaw 15 plant expansions and grew the company from a single line of chairs to a full line of contract seating, lounge furniture, desks, and conference tables.
During the 1970’s the company progressed to the third generation. Danny Davis, the current president, joined his father at the company in 1976. During this time, a new approach toward manufacturing office and executive furniture began to take shape. The goal was clean, contemporary designs which would combine quality and function. To help achieve this goal, Davis began forging licensing agreements with European companies, by which Davis would manufacture European products in North America. Davis also began working with European designers, helping to engineer and manufacture original designs.
Since that time, the continued mission of Davis Furniture has been to offer high-quality, cutting edge products with innovative design, function, and aesthetics that make the workplace more appealing. In the mid-90’s John Davis, Jr. retired and his son, Danny Davis, took over as President. Like his father before him, Danny Davis has overseen massive growth in the company, maintaining a focus on high-quality, innovative design.
Now in the fourth generation, Danny Davis is joined by his two children, Ashley Davis Williams and Brian Davis. Davis Furniture has maintained a commitment to family values and to manufacturing high quality furniture for 75 years. During this landmark year, we have the distinct pleasure of remembering the past 75 years of design at Davis Furniture and looking forward to the next 75 and beyond.
