Haworth Inn and Conference Center, a 48-room hotel owned by Hope College, is getting a $7.5 million makeover.
Under the project, which kicked off in November, the hotel’s guestrooms and conference rooms will be renovated, and the lobby will be rebuilt and outfitted with a new coffee shop, the college said in a news release.
The project is being funded in part through a donation from Haworth, a private office furniture maker based in Holland. The company and the college declined to say how much the company’s donated for the project.
“The Haworth Inn and Conference Center has been a tremendous resource for both Hope and the community,” Hope President Matthew Scogin said in a statement. “With this latest support from Haworth, this facility will be an even more inviting destination for guests and events and will also serve as a welcome center and a gathering space for Hope alumni.”
Guest rooms and the main-floor lobby are expected to reopen in May, while the coffee shop and conference spaces “will be phased in during the summer,” the college said.
Hope opened the Haworth Inn and Conference Center in January 1997. In a news release, the college said it named the building after Haworth in recognition of donations made to the college’s endowment.
In addition to 48 guest rooms, the building includes 10,000 square feet of meeting and banquet facilities, including 13 conference rooms. It also includes a fitness facility and gift shop.
The design work related to the renovations has been led by Patricia Urquiola. In a news release, Hope said she’s an award-winning designer and architect who works for Haworth and is based in Milan, Italy.
