Regency Furniture, a manufacturer of office furniture, has cut the ribbon on its latest expansion project, which promises to double capacity at its Akron, Ohio headquarters operation and bring the latest warehouse automation systems and technology to the company.
Participating in the ceremony were Akron Mayor Daniel Horrigan, and City Council President Margo Sommerville, Akron City Council Member Mike Freeman and Director of Business Retention and Expansion Samuel D. DeShazior.
“In 2004, when we moved into our current facility, we had just five employees working out of a building that was practically derelict, with holes in the roof and almost no wiring,” recalled Regency President John “Skip” Summerville.
“Sixteen years later, after investing hundreds of thousands of dollars in the company and an incredible amount of hard work by an extraordinary team of industry professionals, now 45 team members strong, we are embarking on a project that will increase our productivity by 30% and add over 20% to our warehouse capacity,” he noted. “Today, 98.5% of orders received by Regency ship same day and this latest investment will enable us to take our shipping performance and overall customer service to even greater levels as we continue to grow.”
Since its founding in 1987, Regency Global Sourcing, parent company of Regency Furniture, has become a worldwide player in the office furniture market, with operations in China and Eastern Europe and an increasingly international customer and supplier base. The company has also become an industry trendsetter and holds a number of exclusive industry patents and trademarks.
