Wilkhahn, the German office manufacturer recognized worldwide for its design engineering and innovation, announces the re-design of its NY Showroom.
Designed by Gensler and led by Principal Carlos Martínez, the space was transformed with flexibility and product visibility in mind. The space aptly serves as a workspace for Wilkhahn employees, and a showroom for the architecture market, offering inspiration in its design elements.
“As we considered what a refresh to Wilkhahn's NYC showroom should be, our design is based on the idea of a space that's less about “displaying” furniture, and more about understanding how people today interact with their workplace,” says Martinez. “We believe that when people visit a furniture showroom, they want to imagine themselves using it. This new showroom design is organized around the idea of activities, showing how people, in this case the Wilkhahn staff as well as their guests and customer, interact dynamically with their furniture.”
The 3,700-square foot showroom was designed based on the company's stand at Orgatec in 2016, using different materials and shapes. The space has been configured for a balance of both private and open spaces to showcase diverse and clever office solutions for new types of work environments. This fits perfectly with the new ranges, which complement the Wilkhahn portfolio for collaborative workspaces. The collections offer an excellent toolbox for designers to create workspaces in the typical design language Wilkhahn stands for.
“As one of the leading European, contract manufacturers, we are excited to see a continued growth in the U.S. and especially in the New York market,” says Victor Ramos, Managing Director, Wilkhahn. “We hope our renovated showroom and new collections will bring inspiration to and strengthen our connection with the architecture and design community.”
Wilkhahn has been developing its U.S. presence since it launched in 2008, and has seen much more recent growth in the market with their expanded product portfolio. Some of the company's latest introductions include: Occo, Metrik, mAx and Aula.
Located on the 8th floor of the historic Starrett-Lehigh Building among notable design, architecture and creative companies, the new Wilkhahn space is the perfect display for designs made in Germany.
