One of the world's largest producers of office furniture and equipment has snapped up two huge Carrollton industrial buildings to grow its footprint in North Texas.

Michigan-based Steelcase Inc. purchased the two new buildings in the Valwood Crossroads business park at Belt Line and Luna Roads.

The two warehouses built by Core 5 Industrial Partners contain more than 600,000 square feet.

Steelcase plans to use the buildings for manufacturing and distribution starting this summer. The company plans to hire almost 400 seasonal workers for the operation, according to Dallas real estate broker NAI Robert Lynn which negotiated the property sale.

"Our company has been on a growth trajectory," Allan Smith, Steelcase vice president of global marketing, said in a statement. . "The location, along with the building's features, was the perfect choice as we made this acquisition."

The Carrollton building purchases comes about a year after Steelcase purchased Plano-based Smith System Manufacturing Co., a leading manufacturer of school furniture.

NAI Robert Lynn's Mark Miller and Dave Peterson brokered the building sales to Steelcase. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

"The customized building enables Steelcase to expand its capabilities and support manufacturing growth for years to come," said Miller.
